02 / How I work

A systems thinker.
A hands-on designer.

I connect the details people interact with to the systems and teams behind them.

My career spans agencies, enterprise products, public services, and games. I’ve led designers and researchers, worked alongside product and engineering teams, and stayed close to the craft: flows, prototypes, interaction design, and the details that make a product usable.

Outside design: illustration, basketball coaching, books, and a house with plenty of cats.

Background

I’m a senior product designer and UX lead based in Ottawa, Canada, with more than 20 years of experience across enterprise products, public services, and global brands.

My work today focuses on complex, high-stakes products: government services, regulated platforms, data tools, and enterprise software. I’ve led UX for organizations including Government of Alberta, Transport Canada, Treasury Board Secretariat, FCAC, and ESPN / MLB on Google Looker.

Earlier in my career I worked in brand and digital campaigns for Nike, Jordan Brand, HP, and Mercedes-Benz, and in games. That background still shapes how I think about craft, motion, and detail.

How I work

I connect the details people interact with to the systems and teams behind them. I’ve led designers and researchers, worked alongside product and engineering teams, and stayed close to the craft: flows, prototypes, interaction design, and the details that make a product usable.

I start with the people and the policy or business constraint behind a product, map the service end to end, then prototype early and test with real users. I build accessibility in from the start (WCAG 2.1 AA), keep design systems consistent across teams, and work closely with developers through sprint standards and clear definitions of done.

Screens
Selected design work for Treasury Board Secretariat.

The challenge

Technical tools often grow around the structure of their data and systems. Tracker needed an interface that helped people navigate information, understand status, and move through their work with greater clarity.

My contribution

I led UX and interface design work, using user interviews, wireframes, and interactive prototypes to explore a more usable dashboard experience. My work included data visualization, notifications, responsive layouts, and light and dark interface treatments.

Impact

An interactive design direction for a technical cybersecurity tool, covering sign-in, DMARC dashboards and notifications, that stakeholders could review and test.

Design approach

Connect the dashboard to user tasks

User interviews and usability work helped ground the redesign in how people needed to find and use information. I used prototypes to make those workflows tangible for discussion and iteration.

Create a consistent interface system

I brought common treatment to navigation, dashboard elements, and status information, supporting a coherent experience across screens.

Explore the experience across contexts

Responsive prototypes and light and dark treatments helped examine how the interface behaved beyond a single desktop view.

01Signing in and registering

Entry points to Tracker Suivi, with a dark side panel carrying the brand and a short description of the service.

LoginSign in with a username or phone number and password, or use GCKey.
RegisterCreate an account with name, phone, email and password, with options to stay informed and agree to the terms.
Sign-in confirmationA “Sign in successful” notification confirms the action at the top of the screen.

02DMARC phases dashboard

The signed-in view, centred on a radial chart of DMARC phases, with tabs for HTTPS configuration, DMARC summary and accessibility.

DMARC phasesA radial chart shows the share of domains in each phase, from not implemented through assess, deploy, enforce and maintain, with a date picker and a control to change the model view.
Notifications and trendsA toast notification and a bar chart with a legend sit beside the phase chart.
Compliance gaugeA single gauge shows overall compliance as a percentage, alongside the bar chart.
Track Digital SecurityHTTPS configuration and DMARC phases appear as two summary cards, each with a gauge and a breakdown of counts.
Chart colour specificationAnnotated hex values document the colours used for the chart rings, tracks, labels and status badge.

03Mobile, in dark mode

The same system on a phone: a compact icon rail and menu in place of the sidebar, a full-width radial overview, and domain results that stack as cards.

LandingThe dark mobile landing screen: a beta banner, the Tracker Suivi brand, a short policy description and Privacy, Terms and Report an issue links in the footer.
Dashboard overviewA compact icon rail replaces the sidebar. The radial chart shows implementation phases from not implemented through maintain, with counts and percentages beside each ring.
Navigation menuA full-height menu lists Admin Profile, Account Settings, DMARC Summaries, Domains and Organizations, with a circular control to collapse it.
GlossaryA glossary explains each column in the Organizations HTTPS configuration summary: name, services, HTTPS configured and DMARC configuration.
Domains listEach domain becomes a card with Policy, HTTPS, HSTS, Ciphers, Curves and Protocols status icons, an SPF, DKIM and DMARC group, and a Guidance action.
Search, sort and pagingSort by and items-per-page controls sit above the domain cards, with a search field and a clear page title and summary label.

What I delivered

The project produced an interactive, responsive design direction for the tool, with dashboard, notification and dark-mode mobile patterns that could be reviewed and tested with stakeholders.

The design lesson

A strong enterprise interface translates technical complexity into an understandable working environment. The design needs to support decisions as well as display information.
